How to Remove ?v=xxx from WordPress WooCommerce URL

WooCommerce plugin generates the extra string end of your URL or permalink. The string looks like “?v=xxx”. It helps WooCommerce to calculate tax & shipping based on visitors’ local area. However, it may look awkward to your online store or website visitors. And you can remove the random strings or unknown characters from the end of your website link.

How to remove ?v=xxx from URL

Login to your WordPress dashboard and follow the steps

  1. Navigate to WooCommerce => Settings

    WooCommerce Settings menu

  2. Find the option “Default customer location” under “General” tab

    woocommerce default customer location

  3. Set it to “No location by default”

Also, you can choose another option called ‘Shop base addressNo location by default

  4. Save Changes

Finally don’t forget to save your changes.Save changes button

These settings will resolve the permalink issue from your WordPress website.

The random strings are unique. And those extra characters are automatically generated based on visitors location & per unique visit.

The unknown characters are added to the end of your URL. For example- www.yoursite.com/?v=3dd6b9265ff1

At the first sight, it may seem website is redirecting to a different URL. But it’s not any WordPress error or bug. It’s just for calculating the shipping & tax based on user’s location.

However, now you know how to fix your permalink and remove the extra string from the end of your website link. And also you know the reason why WooCommerce creates those strings.

However, since the strings are unique, so it’s very difficult to find the proper solution on the internet. Because your search term may be different than others.

So everyone is searching with unique search term, such as v=79cba1185463, v=0f177369a3b7, v=518f4a738816.

Someone faced this problem and asked on a online community. The issue also look very new to me as well. On our first response, we advised the user to resave permalink structure, rename/remove existing ‘HTACCESS’ file and deactivate any redirection related plugin. But nothing solved the user’s issue. Finally, we took a closer look into their website and brought the solution.

However, if you got this answer in search result, then you’re lucky.
